7 Reasons to Eat Cantaloupe All Summer Long
As the first of the early season California cantaloupe gets picked and packed and sent on its way to your local grocery store, we are rounding up seven [of the countless] reasons to eat cantaloupe all Summer long (and beyond!). With mere days until the official start of the season, consider this a PSA, and take the opportunity to plan your strategy for scooping up all the California cantaloupe you possibly can as soon as it hits the shelves.
So! Here it is, the short list of reasons why you should eat cantaloupe:
•••
1. For the unparalleled sweetness (obviously)
This reason really could be a standalone – the be all end all. Any yet, there’s more…
These melons are grown under the warm, iconic Californian sun. This ideal climate contributes to the exceptional sweetness you’ve come to know and love. And thanks to the mandatory food safety program voluntarily put in place by the California cantaloupe farmers, themselves, you and your family can enjoy the sweet season with peace of mind.
And you haven’t done Summer right if you haven’t grilled cantaloupe – this one is a real game-changer. If you haven’t slapped some cantaloupe wedges on your barbecue before, you’ll thank us once you do. And if you have, then you know the magic that happens when the cantaloupe’s sugars caramelize.
…and the Vitamin C, the fiber, and the folacin. And the fact that all of that comes in a nice sweet package of 60 calories per serving.
Whether it’s the Golden State’s golden sun or all the delicious cantaloupe that grows in their backyard, California cantaloupe farmers are some truly amazing people. You can take our word for it or you can see for yourself what we mean when we say that these folks really are awesome.
The idea that eating good = feeling good (and who doesn’t want to feel good?). The mind, body, melon mantra is a great anthem for the season – and is so fitting as we round the corner into bikini season.
7. Cantaloupe + ice cream is what dreams are made of
By putting your ice cream on top of cantaloupe, it naturally becomes healthier. Some have referred to this as “salad” – and we’re not going to correct them. Regardless, this is a delicious combination of flavors and textures you will surely want to put on repeat. All. Summer. Long.
