About Us

This website is brought to you by a group of cantaloupe farmers who are members of an organization called the California Cantaloupe Advisory Board.

The California Cantaloupe Advisory Board is an entity that operates under the oversight of the California Department of Food and Agriculture. Several of these kinds of organizations exist in California agriculture to conduct various activities such as advertising and promotion, research, quality control and the enforcement of mandatory food safety practices. They are known by names such as Commodity Boards, Commissions or Check-off Program.

The best known example of this type of organization is the California Milk Advisory Board, which produced the famous “Got Milk?” advertising campaign among several others designed to encourage demand for milk and dairy products from California.

All commercial producers of cantaloupe in California are required to pay assessments (like a tax) to the fund programs of the California Cantaloupe Advisory Board. This means all California cantaloupe growers must adhere to minimum quality standards and follow specific food safety practices to ensure cantaloupe grown in California is safe.

California cantaloupe farmers also fund this website, social media channels and other activities to provide consumers with information about California cantaloupe and promote sales.

The California Cantaloupe Advisory Board does not sell cantaloupe itself, but members of the organization sell cantaloupe to grocery stores and restaurants around the country.

You can find California cantaloupe in just about every grocery store produce department during the peak harvest months of June, July and August. You can learn more by following us on our social media channels.
