Season Kick-Off for California Cantaloupe and Awesome Giveaways!
California cantaloupe season has finally arrived! Although this season may feel different due to COVID-19, one thing remains certain — sweet and safe California cantaloupes are once again back in your produce aisle. Another thing you can count on? Now that fresh California cantaloupe is hitting the shelves of your local grocery store, we want to remind you that thoroughly washing and safely cutting and storing your cantaloupe is of the utmost importance. So before we get into the details of our first contest, a few reminders:
- Always wash cantaloupe with running water before cutting into it. Use a scrub brush to thoroughly clean the rind.
- Use a clean knife and cutting board when preparing cantaloupe to prevent contamination from other food.
- After cutting, store cantaloupe in the refrigerator in a sealed container.
The top priority of California cantaloupe farmers is to provide consumers with the safest melons in the world — a goal that they don’t take lightly. When you buy a California cantaloupe, you should know it has been grown under a stringent food safety program that requires growers to pass a government food safety audit with 180 different checkpoints in the field and another 150 checkpoint audit in the cooling facility. California cantaloupe producers are doing their part to keep melons safe. So, please do your part by following the simple handling and storing guidelines above.
