Santaloupe’s Cantaloupe Holidays
‘Tis the season for good company, festive décor, holiday drinks, and scrumptious food. This year, while you enjoy the company of family and friends, Santaloupe and his elves at the California Cantaloupe Advisory Board are here to help with your holiday entertaining and last minute gift giving.
The halls are decked, you’ve made it on to Santa’s “Nice” list, and the excitement of the holidays is here! Are you hosting the gathering this year or will you be bringing something delicious to a relative’s place? Either way, we have you covered!

As we’ve mentioned before, cantaloupes are available year-round in the U.S., which means you can surprise guests with a deliciously juicy and unexpected hors d’oeuvre, dish, or dessert for the holidays, like baked Brie topped with cantaloupe and rosemary, savory grilled cantaloupe skewers, cantaloupe pavlova, or Santaloupe’s favorite cantaloupe cream pie!
Another great offering to bring along to the holiday festivities are these miniature cantaloupe Santas with strawberry hats – these little fellows kind of resemble me when I was a young lad.
And if you’re hosting, try one of these scrumptious cantaloupe cocktails.
Heading to a holiday party as a guest? You can bring one of the above-mentioned offerings, or you could put together a gift basket full of goodies like fresh cantaloupes and chocolate. On the topic of chocolate, you can gift the host with a fondue set complete with cantaloupe, melon baller, and chocolate to melt. Who doesn’t love chocolate dip?

What resolutions do you have for the New Year? Maybe to eat healthier, prepare more meals at home, or have more nutritious snacks? Santaloupe is here to help you achieve all of these!
For 2015, Santaloupe’s New Year’s resolutions include buying more California cantaloupes and losing a little bit of weight – he’s feeling a little round around the middle.
Cantaloupe is an excellent source of both Vitamin A and Vitamin C. A six-ounce serving, or roughly a quarter of a melon, provides 100%, or more, of the U.S. recommended daily allowances of each vitamin. Cantaloupes are also high in dietary fiber as well as folacin; a nutrient needed for growth and the development of hemoglobin. All of the nutrition in cantaloupe comes with minimal calories. There are 60 calories in a six-ounce serving of cantaloupe and cantaloupes contain no fat or cholesterol.
So much nutritional benefit and so few calories make cantaloupe an excellent snack or addition to any meal! You don’t need to choose between healthy and delicious – with the natural sweetness of cantaloupe, you can get both! Refined sugar-free, cantaloupes make for a great alternative to high-sugar processed snacks and can be easily packed in daily lunches or stored in the refrigerator for when hunger strikes!

Wherever you are and however you celebrate the holiday season this year, Santaloupe and everyone at the California Cantaloupe Advisory Board wish you the very best of holidays and a new year full of happiness, good company, and delicious food!
