Frozen Cantaloupe Treats
Frozen fruit can be a delicious and fun way to get kids (or anyone) to eat healthy fruits this summer.
These frozen treats are like popsicles, but better. In this recipe, we’ve combined frozen grapes with cantaloupe balls.
Ingredients
- 2 cups green, red or purple seedless grapes
- 1 whole California cantaloupe, washed and scrubbed under
- running water
- Paper cups or bowls for serving
Wash grapes in a colander and let them dry. Cut cantaloupe in half, remove seeds and use a melon balling tool to scoop bite-sized balls from cantaloupe halves. Place cantaloupe balls and grapes on a flat surface (e.g., plastic container, tray or other dish that will fit in your freezer.) Freeze fruit for several hours or overnight. Once frozen, you can place in an airtight container and store in the freezer for several weeks. To serve, remove grapes and melon balls from the freezer and evenly distribute in paper cups or bowls. Send the kids outside to enjoy this fun frozen treat –maybe they won’t even notice the tunes from the ice cream truck! (Note: Melon balls can be a bit hard initially. They will quickly thaw to a point where they are easy to chew, but you may want to warn the kids to suck them at first before chomping down.) Serves 4.
