Cantaloupe Sandwiches
This summer try adding sliced cantaloupe to your favorite sandwich. You might be surprised at the new taste treat you’ll invent.
In the California Cantaloupe test kitchen recently we tried adding sliced, fresh cantaloupe to a number of sandwich options. Here are two of the best we tasted.
Salami and Cantaloupe on Country French Bread
Italians seem to know what they’re doing when it comes to pairing sweet melons with salty, cured meats. Try an open-faced sandwich with the following ingredients:
- Italian dry salami
- California cantaloupe, cut into thin slices
- Sliced country French bread
- Dijon mustard and mayonnaise, to taste
- Sprouts and ground pepper, optional
Turkey, Jack Cheese and Cantaloupe on Wheat Bread
Instead of tomatoes, try adding a slice or two of sweet cantaloupe to a classic turkey sandwich.
- Sliced, roast turkey
- Jack (or other cheese)
- California cantaloupe, cut into thin slices
- Whole wheat bread
- Mayonnaise
- Arugula or other green leafy lettuce
Try out your own combination!
